As 2022 begins with some restrictions still in place, it feels like we have a while to go before we can get back to normality. 2021 has certainly brought its problems with shortages in material supplies and rising costs. However, the industry reports it is in good shape and these issues will improve over time. Last year in these pages we spoke about the lack of the availability of specialist training across all sectors of the industry. We are pleased to note that the various associations led by the EIFI have responded to this challenge. Mark Keogh has made great progress through Engineering Skillsnet. Ken Legros has introduced suitable training for electrical wholesalers, with support from EIFI and in association with EDA. The AEW will present their own awards event this year. This is great support and encouragement to participants in the scheme. The government has also supported interest in training with increased finance assistance support for apprenticeships and increased access to skilled training to take advantage of this new digital age. 2022 marks the tenth year of the publication of ELECTRIC.ie .
