ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 7 Small and compact in name and format but packing a huge punch when it comes to features and benefits is the new Inceptor Milli dimmable, fixed, fire-rated LED downlight. Designed to complement the range of downlight solutions already offered by Ovia, Inceptor Milli is aimed predominantly at the domestic market. It combines style and functionality to provide installers with a downlight that is quick and easy to fit and offers a range of features at the flick of a switch. Standard or Baffle Inceptor Milli is an IP65-rated downlight that is available both in standard/ xed and baf e versions. The standard version provides a 60 beam angle, while the baf e provides a more focused 25 angle. The baf e design ensures a more concentrated and directional illumination, making it an ideal choice for highlighting speci c areas. The baf e is offered in a choice of white or black. Five bezel nishes are available, with a choice of White, Black, Chrome, Satin Chrome and Antique Brass nishes offered. With the Ovia – switching up its downlight offer ‒Now in its fifth year of trading as an independent lighting company, Ovia has established itself as a leading player in the lighting sector. With Issue 5 of the Ovia catalogue just released into circulation, Mike Collins, Managing Director, shines a light on one of the new light fittings which he believes will be a star performer for the company this year. Industry NewOsVIA standard version you simply order the nish of your choice as a xed nish. The baf e version is supplied with a white bezel, but this can be interchanged with any of the other nishes and they are purchased separately. Simply twist the existing bezel to remove and replace with the colour nish of your choice. This also means that for a fresh new look in the future, it is simply a case of replacing the bezels with an alternative nish. Switching it Up A key feature to highlight with the Milli downlight is the element of control that is offered in this one tting. There is the option to seamlessly switch between 6.4W and 4W power outputs using a single switch to provide users with unprecedented control over their lighting environments. There is also the ability to easily switch the colour temperatures between 2700K (Warm White), 4000K (Cool White) and 6500K (Daylight). This allows for effortless adaptation to varying lighting needs and makes is easy for the end user to tailor their lighting to suit their individual requirements. Whether they are seeking a vibrant, well-lit atmosphere or a more subdued, energy-conscious ambiance, the Inceptor Milli ensures optimal exibility. Rotatable Insulation Cover One feature that sets the Inceptor Milli apart from many downlights on the market is the insulation cover which introduces a practical solution for installation challenges. The rotatable insulation cover allows you to install the downlights safely under insulation but also adjust the cover allowing for 5mm extra clearance. On the standard/ xed Milli downlight the insulation cover can be twisted to the up and down position and still t in a 60mm void. The baf e version can only t in a 60mm void when the insulation cover is down and the plasterboard is a minimum thickness of 12.5cm. Issue 5 of the Ovia Catalogue

8 ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • OVIA By accommodating insulation materials more effectively, the Inceptor Milli ensures optimal performance. Unrestricted air ow around the xture helps manage heat dissipation, contributing to the longevity and ef ciency of the downlight. Our downlights are Fire Rated to 30, 60 and 90 minutes and also feature an Intumescent Strip, which, when exposed to re, expands to seal the gap between the light tting and plasterboard. Fast Fit Connection All our Inceptor Milli downlights are supplied pre-wired with a Fast-Fit, 3-Pole & Loop Flow connector, and we also provide a loose push- t Flow connector in the box which ensures a quick and easy installation process. Broad cut-out range The Inceptor Milli has a broad cut-out range of 64mm to 75mm, which allows the downlights to be installed in a wide range of existing ceiling downlight cut-outs. Multi-pack With the aim of providing a practical and cost-effective solution for a comprehensive range of lighting projects, Inceptor Milli is available in a convenient 10-pack box. Sustainable Inceptor Our industry is currently evolving from a linear to a circular economy, and this will only intensify in the coming months and years. The emphasis is on reducing the amount of waste that goes to land ll by embracing a re-using, remaking/repairing and recycling mentality. Sustainability drives all the decisions and actions we make at Ovia. We are committed to contributing to the transition to a circular economy and our aim is to make Ovia market leader in sustainable lighting. TM66 Assured Product Verification Scheme We are working towards our Inceptor luminaires scoring highly on the TM66 Assured Product Veri cation Scheme. This scheme is an innovative initiative developed and ful lled by the Lighting Industry Association (LIA) and endorsed by CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) and its aim is to advance circular economy practices within the lighting industry. Our Inceptor products have been tested and scored very well on the TM66 Circularity Report. Testing involves the gathering of thorough evidence to support the speci cations of our product range. Hager’s Install of The Year 2023 competition was held in January 2024 via Instagram and their website, www.hager.ie. It was the industry’s time to shine, and voting began for your favourite Hager installations. The concept of the competition was to encourage and support electricians within our industry. The finalists were selected, and your votes decided who would win first, second and third places. Hager launched the competition on Instagram and invited everyone to vote for the finalists through their website. Each of the finalists provided a brief description of their work experience, along with a photo of their Hager installation. The reaction to the competition was outstanding and thousands of your votes were counted to determine first, second and third places. The winner of the competition was Russell Fitzpatrick with a great installation, showcasing Hager’s FWB range of distribution boards. Russell will join Hager (along with his partner) on a fabulous Mediterranean cruise in May 2024. Paddy Hegarty, came a close second place, and Lee Murphy won third place. Kevin Curran, Hager’s Head of Sales in Ireland, commented; “It was really encouraging to see the incredible support for colleagues within our electrical industry. Hager also hold monthly competitions for electricians and apprentices on social media, and we get an extremely positive response to them. However, the reaction to our Install of the Year competition was on another level, as we received over three times the volume of votes compared to 2022. It’s great to see electricians applauding and promoting the excellent standards of work within our industry, and this should certainly be nurtured. We need to promote and support excellence in our industry.” Hager’s Install of the Year supports industry excellence Kevin Curran interviewed Russell Fitzpatrick to get an insight into Russell’s working life: Congratulations Russell, on winning Hager Ireland’s Install of the Year competition. The response to the competition has been extremely positive. How did it feel to be voted Hager Ireland’s Install of the Year? I was genuinely over the moon winning the Install of the Year; it really was a feel-good moment. The recognition from peers and the industry has already been incredibly rewarding. Achieving this award has not only filled me with personal pride but has also underscored the value of hard work and Hager’s Install of the Year 2023 competition Kevin Curran, Hager’s Head of Sales presents Russell Fitzpatrick witht he trophy, alongside Robbie Burke (owner Robbie Burke Electrical). ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 11 dedication in our industry. I am immensely grateful for the positive response it has garnered and the support of my peers. How did you initially become interested in becoming an electrician? Well, my father was an electrician, and I vividly remember him bringing me along during my school holidays to job sites. To be perfectly honest, at that time, I wasn’t particularly fascinated with the intricacies of chasing walls or the complexities of electrical work. However, as I progressed through school, the exposure to the field grew on me. The hands-on experience and witnessing the transformative power of electricity sparked a genuine interest. By the time I finished school, the decision to pursue an electrical apprenticeship became clear. My father’s influence played a pivotal role in shaping my career path, and I am grateful for the guidance he provided, setting me on this rewarding journey in the electrical industry. Can you tell us a little bit about the company you work for, Robbie Burke Electrical, and the type of electrical work that you carry out. At Robbie Burke Electrical, it’s truly a fantastic company to work for and be a part of, boasting an exceptional team of dedicated electricians and apprentices. The work environment is enriching, with a culture that fosters collaboration, innovation, and a strong sense of pride in our work. I consider myself fortunate to be a part of this successful team, where every member contributes to the collective success of the company. Our scope of work is extensive, ranging from rewiring houses to working on projects in hotels, bars, restaurants, offices, and handling urgent call-outs for multiple companies. The diversity of projects keeps us on our toes and continually challenges us to expand our skill set. The technical intricacies and the occasional humour in wondering whether our brains are growing or burning out adds a unique dimension to our daily endeavours. What advice would you give apprentices starting out in this industry? I believe that apprentices, as they embark on their journey in the electrical industry, should prioritise taking pride in their work, maintaining a consistently neat and tidy workspace, and above all, prioritising safety. These foundational principles are not only crucial for personal and team success but also form the bedrock for cultivating a mindset of excellence. By instilling these values from the very beginning, apprentices can lay a solid foundation for their future growth and development within the industry. It’s a profession that demands precision and dedication, and these early habits can significantly contribute to one’s success in becoming a truly exceptional electrician. I believe the electrical trade is one of the best apprenticeships out there. The options you have once you qualify are endless. I would recommend that apprentices find a progressive, forward thinking company to work for and to always be open to learning new skills.
