8 ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • Siemens The announcement takes place as the Irish government aims for 1 million electric vehicles (EVs) on Irish roads by 2030 coupled with a ban on new sales of internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles by 2030. This relationship helps create the charging infrastructure required as charging an EV in a private location places different demands on the network than charging on public charging stations. Owen Murray- Technical Sales Manager: “Electromobility is vital for achieving climate targets and making mobility in Ireland climateneutral. Kellihers Electrical has a well-established Energy Solutions team in place with a high level of technical knowledge and market expertise which aligns very well with where we want to place Versicharge AC charging systems in the market, ie. targeting commercial/workplace parking, semi-public locations and new build, non-residential sites. The Energy Solutions team at Kellihers Electrical has a proven track record in developing and delivering high value, complex projects making them an ideal trading partner for Siemens eMobility.” Damien Phillips, Country Manager for Rexel Energy Solutions in Ireland, added: “We are delighted to add the Siemens EV charging range, and particularly VersiCharge, to our offering. Siemens is a strong brand which are committed to the Irish electric vehicle charging market, and have great plans in place to support our installer customers”. ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 9 SieRmiet tnasl Battery System Siestorage NEO The integration of charging solutions into an existing infrastructure can quickly exhaust the available grid capacity, this issue is particularly prevalent in Ireland where deploying charging stations at key locations can be problematic due to grid constraint. Expanding the grid capacity, however, is timeconsuming and costly, and makes the development of charging infrastructure challenging. Although self-generated energy in the form of wind, solar, biomass or hydro power helps to increase the available electricity of the grid, it is often unpredictable. Therefore, balancing generation and consumption is key and this is where Siemens provide the solution with SieStorage Neo Allowing high power charging on weak grid connections, storing self-generated energy, balancing peak loads, smart and ef cient load management, and power factor correction – these are only some of the key features of SIESTORAGE NEO. The base con guration of the battery storage system provides 184 kW of power, with a capacity of 164 kWh. This can be extended up to 368 kW of power and a capacity of 656 kWh at any point in time, with various options for project speci c customisation. SieStorage Neo distinguishes itself with its compact and space-saving design, containing all components in one housing. Its proven industry components – made in Germany – make it robust against outer in uences and thus a reliable system for any location. Its modularity and scalability allow for different storage power, capacity and further set-up options, all speci cally tailored to your needs. With Siemens cost-ef cient energy storage solution, you can optimise your CAPEX and OPEX by avoiding expensive extension of the grid connection and costly power peaks. For more details please visit siemens.com/siestorage Sicharge UC Siemens are very active in the bus and truck charging space and can offer depot charging solutions up to 600KW and have delivered a number of successful depot projects in the UK and around Europe with up to 40 high powered DC chargers per depot. Siemens are now the of cial charging provider for Volta Trucks in the UK and France as part of their Truck as a Service offering. Siemens Sicharge UC range can be con gured from 150kW600kW and offers a scalable and modular solution for electrifying bus and truck depots providing eet operators with the peace of mind that they have a future proofed, interoperable solution. For more information please visit siemens.com/sichargeuc Service and Support In addition to supplying DC charging products, Siemens can also offer a choice of extended warranty and service options including remote support and 24 hour on site support that can include a 4 hour response time to site in all 32 counties on the island of Ireland if required. ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 11 IndCuliscktryLitNeehwousse Up until now, Click Litehouse’s popular Definity Screwless wiring accessories range has been supplied as two separate elements – insert and cover plate – with each requiring its own separate product code. In a move to simplify the ordering process for customers – particularly with online ordering in mind – Definity inserts and cover plates will now be supplied and packaged as one unit with one product code. Since it was rst introduced in 2008, De nity has continued to be a popular choice for contractors, designers and end users. The smooth, clean lines of De nity products provide the ultimate nishing touch to this feature packed range of decorative domestic electrical accessories. De nity has evolved from Click’s well-established De ne at plate accessory range and features all of the same attributes including modular switching but without the visible xing screws. De nity goes one stage further by incorporating screwless, push- t face plates in a range of nishes. The face plates are supplied independently of the electrical inserts which means that the initial installation of the product can be carried out and any subsequent maintenance or decoration completed before the nal xing of the face plate. For the installer, this means a greater degree of exibility in the timing of the installation of the insert. The inserts are available in black, white and grey and when Click De nity was rst launched 15 years ago, there were ve cover plate nishes to choose from. Since then, in response to feedback from installers looking for an alternative premium nish for interiors, the range has been expanded and now boasts eight finishes – metal black, matt black, metal white, Definity Complete– the all-in-one solution from Click Litehouse ‒Embracing feedback from the contractors installing the products, as well as wholesalers stocking their ranges, is what drives product development across the Scolmore Group of companies. In response to the latest feedback Click Litehouse has taken its popular Definity Screwless Wiring Accessories range and simplified the ordering process. white, brushed steel, stainless steel, polished chrome and the most recent addition to the range which is antique brass. The Click Litehouse De nity range has been chosen across a range of projects by installers looking for smooth lines and a contemporary nish, with the screwless at plates adding to an overall clean nish. A key element in the selection of De nity is that they allow the installer to t the back plates, with the decorators then able to complete the painting of the rooms before the front plates are simply clipped on. For the homeowner, they offer a simple solution to future decoration projects, allowing the plates to be easily removed and then replaced upon completion. They can also change the colour of the front plate in future to meet any décor requirements. Today the Click Litehouse De nity range of products includes switches, power socket outlets, fused connection units, 45A switches, control switches, socket and blank plates, telephone and data sockets, satellite and coaxial outlets and media plates. ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 19 The construction sector accounts for 20% of greenhouse gas emissions. Lighting represents over 10% of total annual electricity consumption. The 2020 Environmental Regulation (RE2020), in force since 1 January 2022, prioritises energy efficiency and reducing the carbon intensity of energy. In this environmental and regulatory context, constraints on lighting management are a particular priority for residential and commercial buildings alike. For example, it must be possible to turn off lights in the various common areas of unoccupied commercial premises. Our range of detectors lets you choose the most effective way to manage lighting and meet these requirements. Reliable detection Our detectors allow you to manage and automate lighting in residential and commercial buildings easily and efficiently. You can choose detectors to suit different environments, with options that include presence and/or motion sensors plus a choice of flush or surface-mounting. We offer detection systems for basic, mini, large area, corridor and high-ceilings/high-bay environments. The new motion and presence detectors are equipped with sensitive passive infrared (PIR) technology. They react to differences in temperature and motion and can detect body movements as well as smaller movements. Quick installation The surface mounted detectors consist of a detachable lower section with screw-fit connection terminal. It can be attached to any standard socket or mounted directly on the ceiling. The upper section, in which the detection optics are located, is then plugged in and screwed into place. Once that’s done, it’s all ready to use! The flush installed detectors are equipped with a rapid mounting system consisting of spring clamps – robust enough to keep the detector resistant to vibration on the suspended ceiling, yet flexible enough that it can be taken out to adjust the settings on the potentiometer. To link it up, simply connect the cables via a plug-in terminal. Strain relief with cable ties ensures long-term secure contact. “energy savings of up to 90% and standby consumption from only 0.3 W” Motion and presence detectors Manage lighting in buildings effectively Long-term savings Electricity costs are rising. According to figures released by Eurostat for the end of 2022, when compared to the average price for the EU-27 countries, Ireland’s electricity prices were 45% higher. With energy savings of up to 90% and standby consumption from only 0.3 W, that’s two good reasons to invest in a detector. www.hager.ie/detectors Master/slave operation To extend the detection area, it is possible to connect additional devices (slave) in parallel to the master. Easy to set up The user can set up and adjust all major lighting parameters via two easily accessible potentiometers: Potentiometer 1 adjusts the response brightness (between 5 and 2000 lux), allowing the lighting to be optimally adapted to the daylight. Potentiometer 2 controls the duration of the luminescence (between 5 sec and 60 min). EER503 EER513 1 2

ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 23 Industry News ABB lays the foundations for a future of smarter, reliable, and emission free mobility, accessible by everyone, everywhere. ABB offers a total EV charging solution from compact, high quality AC wallboxes, reliable DC fast charging stations with robust connectivity, to innovative on demand electric bus charging systems, we deploy infrastructure that meet the needs of the next generation of smarter mobility. ABB Ability™ connected chargers enable fast global service and proactive maintenance. ABB has years of experience in creating, installing and maintaining charging infrastructure, including several nationwide charger networks. Before joining ABB Ireland as Market Development Manager, E-Mobility in May 2023, Keith Colton spent over twenty years working in the Irish Motor Industry throughout various roles in Sales, Service and Marketing. Q: How did you first become interested in electric vehicles? A: While studying Transport Engineering and Automotive Management in DIT Bolton St (Now TUI) I got experience of the future of automobiles with Hybrid Technology. I always had an interest in the progress of automotive technology throughout my career and requirements for ef ciency have become increasingly signi cant as we look to decarbonise the transport sector. Personally, sustainability has become important to me in my daily life and I see EV as the logical step for the evolution of the automobile industry. Q: What attracted you to ABB? A: I wanted to work at the forefront of EV technology and help actively drive its’ adaptation. ABB are a global leader with their sponsorship of Formula E and a technology partner to Ionity. There is massive potential to be part of a team that can make a real impact. Q: How do you see eMobility developing in Ireland? A: As Ireland look to meet targets under the government’s climate action plan I believe it will become increasingly important. EV sales in Ireland have jumped to almost 50% year on year with EV’s outselling diesel vehicles in April of this year. Infrastructure needs to keep up so that people can enjoy and use their cars in the same way as they would with their ICE alternatives. Charging operators need to access high speed charging equipment to meet the demands of their customers and eet operators require support as they look to electrify their vehicles. Q: What does the future look like? A: Very exciting! ABB are appointing channel partners so we can better serve the market.
