Energy-Efficient Lighting Solution for Parking Garages A Case Study in Sensor Controlled Lighting Solutions. Terry Reilly of Switch Electrical Solutions, Irish distributor for STEINEL lighting products, highlights how an innovative installation in Zurich demonstrates the potential of intelligent lighting in underground car parks. At the Heuried underground car park in Zurich, 240 RS PRO Connect 5100 LEDs from STEINEL were installed as part of a lighting system overhaul aimed at cutting energy use and improving safety. This wireless, sensor-controlled solution showcases how facilities can dramatically reduce operational costs and carbon emissions. The Challenge: To overhaul a wasteful, highcost lighting system that was continuously operating at full power—despite minimal occupancy throughout much of the day. The Solution: A fully sensor-controlled and Bluetooth-networked lighting system using STEINEL RS PRO Connect 5100 LEDs. The lights were grouped and configured via the STEINEL app to respond dynamically to movement and ambient conditions. The Results: • 92% Energy Cost Reduction • Electricity Consumption Cut in Half – from 2.2 kWh/m² to 1.1 kWh/m² • Enhanced Operational Efficiency – Full brightness used only 9% of the time • Greater Safety and User Experience – Bright lighting only when needed, dimmed otherwise Terry Reilly comments: “While we weren’t involved in the Zurich installation directly, this case study clearly shows the benefits of STEINEL’s technology. Irish car park operators have a great opportunity to replicate these results and achieve impressive ROI, safety, and sustainability gains.” Interested in bringing intelligent lighting to your facility?
