ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 7 Gustavo Franchi Steps into New Role as Project Sales Engineer at Hager Ireland Gustavo Franchi is no stranger to tackling complex technical challenges— but his latest role at Hager Group Ireland sees him stepping into a new kind of challenge: blending his engineering know-how with a client-facing, project-driven focus. Recently promoted to Project Sales Engineer, Gustavo is drawing on years of handson experience to help clients design smarter, more efficient electrical solutions that meet today’s evolving needs. Moving from his previous role as Technical and Marketing Manager, Gustavo is now focusing more on the client side of the business. While his past role involved managing technical standards, supporting internal teams, and troubleshooting, the shift to sales brings a new set of priorities. “I’ve gone from mostly working behind the scenes to being out front with clients,” he says. “Now I’m focused on understanding their needs, helping design the right solutions, and keeping everything aligned between our teams and theirs.” It’s a change that plays to his strengths. His new responsibilities include client engagement, solution design, and translating complex technical requirements into clear plans that work for everyone involved. Using Engineering Skills to Build Trust One of the key advantages Gustavo brings to this new role is his strong technical background. Hager It helps him connect with clients in a way that’s more than just transactional. “Because of my experience, I can ask the right questions early on— things that get to the heart of the project,” he explains. “That builds trust. Clients know I understand the technical side as well as the commercial.” In an industry where relationships matter, especially in the Irish market, that mix of credibility and clear communication goes a long way. It helps clients feel confident in the decisions they’re making and in the advice they’re getting. Supporting Projects from the Ground Up Gustavo’s focus will be on a range of projects, particularly in the commercial and residential building sectors. He’ll be working with developers, contractors, and engineers, often from the early design stages. “I help with specifications, product choices, cost-benefit analysis, and even training and implementation. It’s about being there for the full journey, not just at the point of sale,” he says. This approach allows clients to get the most out of Hager’s products and services while making sure everything is tailored to their specific needs. Looking to the Future Looking ahead, Gustavo is aiming to grow his expertise even further—especially in areas like smart grid integration, renewable energy, and IoT-based building systems. “That’s where the industry is heading, and I want to be at the front of that shift,” he says. “It’s important to keep learning, to stay hands-on, and to always look for ways to bring more value to the client.” With a deep technical background and a passion for problem-solving, Gustavo Franchi steps into a clientfacing role blending engineering expertise with strategic project sales in Ireland’s evolving energy market. ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 29 AP Haslam AP Haslam Solutions for Data Centres and Critical Power The global digital infrastructure industry, an industry now valued at over €1 trillion annually represents a tremendous opportunity for Irish Industry. “In fact, Irish companies punch well above their weight when it comes to building data centre infrastructure across Europe and the globe” states Seán Lynam, Commercial Manager at AP Haslam. As highlighted recently at a panel discussion on Data Centres at the National Construction Summit 70% of projects currently underway across Europe have Irish company involvement. “This represents a huge endorsement of Irish companies reputation for the design and build of digital infrastructure globally” Seán points out. Whereas the roll out of Data Centres in Ireland has not been without detractors it needs to be remembered that the skills developed at home have opened up huge opportunities for Irish engineers and contractors to work on the World stage. “We at AP Haslam are very conscious that these Irish companies need the best components to meet the high specifications of their builds” Seán explains and was delighted recently to have had the opportunity to discuss the range of power distribution and protection components for Data Centres with two of the leading experts from Mersen Electrical Power, Pierric Gueguen, (Solutions for Power Management – VP Global Strategic Marketing) and Virginie Golicheff (VP Strategic Marketing Electrical Protection and Control). “What was evident from our discussions was the wide range of electrical components Mersen offer in AC distribution to DC battery storage and UPS back up” Seán explains. Critically the impact on the environment is to the forefront of Mersen thinking and as an EcoVadis Gold partner they are developing new architecture for data centres to improve energy efficiency and reduce their carbon footprint. “We are leveraging our extensive knowledge of cooling IGBT power components to develop new liquid cooling solutions for HPC’s on the server rack” Pierric explains. “This significantly improves heat recovery and improves overall facility energy efficiency” he concludes. Similarly, the shift from AC to DC distribution within data centres presents another path to reducing overall energy consumption. “we’re very excited in Mersen on our development of DC microgrids” Virginie explains, “as avoiding AC-DC conversions conserves energy and DC distribution allows more efficient integration with Solar PV power” she pointed out. Other solutions in the area of smart switch disconnectors have been developed to help in the energy transition. Mersen, with 130 years of experience in making fuses and electrical protection have a wealth of technical knowledge that can be brought to bear for any Irish company looking to specify the AC and DC distribution on a Data Centre project. Dual certification (UL/IEC) is standard on most products simplifying inventory management. Seán invites companies to discuss their projects. “We would be delighted to discuss with any company their Data Centre project. We have a wide selection of products from many leading European manufacturers” Sean Lynam, AP Haslam. Tom Kennerney, Emily Maher, Richie Kavanagh and Sean Lynam of AP Haslams accompanied by Barry Tierney and Paul Dorset of AC Cable Solutions at the recent National Construction Summit.
