ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 49 Industry News LEDVANCE, a global leader in lighting and innovative technology solutions, is proud to announce a significant step forward in its sustainability journey. The company has achieved its first-ever thirdparty verified and published Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for a LED tube. This accomplishment highlights LEDVANCE’s commitment to greater transparency, environmental responsibility, and industry leadership in sustainable product development. An Environmental Product Declaration is a standardised document that transparently communicates the environmental performance of a product throughout its lifecycle. It includes a wide range of ecological indicators such as global warming potential, resource depletion, and other environmental impacts. The LED tube EPD sets a new benchmark for the industry and demonstrates LEDVANCE’s dedication to reducing its environmental footprint. The company has set an ambitious goal: to ensure that at least 80% of its professional luminaire portfolio in Europe will be covered by verified EPDs by the end of 2026. "Sustainability is a business imperative in the lighting industry," said Teresa Kleber, Project Manager Sustainability, LCA & EPD at LEDVANCE. "We see EPDs not only as a compliance tool, but also as an opportunity to learn and innovate. They help us understand the environmental impact of our products and identify where we can improve." LEDVANCE Reaches Major Sustainability Milestone with First Environmental Product Declaration for LED Tube Driving Sustainability Through Product Innovation This recent EPD milestone is just one of several actions LEDVANCE has taken to align its business with the principles of sustainability and the circular economy. The company continues to expand its EVERLOOP portfolio, which focuses on modular luminaires that allow for easy upgrades of key components like drivers and light sources. This design extends product life, reduces waste, and conserves valuable resources. Another forward-thinking initiative is the NATURELOOP product line. Originally developed for consumers, these products are now being positioned for professional use as well. The LED Classic NATURELOOP lamps are made with at least 40% post-consumer recycled plastic or, in some cases, 100% recycled aluminum, reinforcing LEDVANCE’s focus on material efficiency and reduced environmental impact. Additionally, the MULTI SELECT portfolio combines long life, efficiency, and adaptability. With the ability to select different light outputs and color temperatures via a simple switch, these products reduce the need for multiple SKUs, streamline inventory management for distributors, and support lower energy consumption across a broad range of applications. Digital Transformation for a Greener Future LEDVANCE’s commitment to sustainability extends beyond products. Through its “Paper to Digital” campaign, the company has significantly reduced its reliance on printed materials. By offering product documentation in digital format, LEDVANCE estimates it is saving hundreds of tons of paper annually. This initiative not only supports environmental goals but also enhances convenience for customers by making documents easily and permanently accessible online. Wolfgang Mayershofer, Head of Product and Portfolio Management for Electronic Components and Light Management Systems, Europe, stated: “Switching to digital documentation allows us to maintain the same high level of information accessibility while reducing environmental impact. Safety-related information will still be available in printed form to comply with legal requirements.” With this new EPD and a series of innovative sustainability initiatives, LEDVANCE continues to demonstrate industry leadership and a forward-looking approach to environmental responsibility.
