Boosts Building Security with KNX Secure to Protect Against Unauthorised Access The German manufacturer has introduced ‘KNX Secure’ to selected products using a device which connects ordinary wall switches or push buttons to a KNX building automation system allowing them to control functions such as lighting, blinds or other building systems. The new technology is designed to help protect communications between connected devices against unauthorised access and manipulation. B.E.G. says KNX Secure will ‘help safeguard control messages exchanged between devices’ which will provide an ‘additional layer of protection’ for intelligent building installations. The updated switch interface module combines enhanced communication security with four individually configurable channels, allowing conventional push buttons, switches and indicator lights to be integrated into KNX building automation systems. Dan Glynn, Sales Director for B.E.G. UK & Ireland, said: “As buildings become increasingly connected, protecting the systems that control lighting, blinds and other functions is an important consideration for building owners, installers and system integrators. “Protecting communication between devices helps reduce the risk of unauthorised interference and supports greater confidence in the systems that building owners and occupants rely on. “By introducing KNX Secure support to this interface, we’re combining an additional layer of communication security with the flexibility installers need when designing building control solutions.” B.E.G. LIGHTING controls specialist B.E.G. has strengthened the security capabilities of its KNX building automation range in Ireland with an updated push-button interface module.
