Printed by W&G Baird As another year draws to a close, we would like to extend a special thank you to Phoenix Contact, who have once again kindly supplied a free wall planner for our readers. It is a welcome tradition and a great way to look ahead to the year to come. This edition also marks another milestone for our magazine, as we celebrate 14 years in existence. We say it every year, but it is worth repeating: without the continued support of the electrical industry, we simply would not be here. We are hugely appreciative of the manufacturers, distributors, suppliers and wholesalers who support us throughout the year. Our aim has always been to provide value to our readers and advertisers alike, and we are delighted that, somehow, it all continues to work! Looking at the wider industry, business appears to be moving in a positive direction as we head towards the end of 2026. More than 26,000 new homes were completed during the first three quarters of the year, representing a 10.6% increase on the same period in 2025. We are also seeing signs of major projects getting underway again, with the new National Maternity Hospital receiving the green light from Government. These are encouraging developments, and hopefully the momentum will continue well into 2027. There is plenty happening across the industry in this edition. GARO introduces the next generation of EV charging solutions for 2027 on page 7, while Troy Panels celebrates an impressive 20 years in business and Gigamedia marks 30 years of delivering smart building solutions. You can read more about these milestones on page 38. There is also exciting news from OEM Demesne Electrical, which has opened a major new Dublin distribution hub at APEX in Ballymount. The official opening takes place on 2nd December, although the team has already commenced trading from the new facility. We take a closer look at this significant investment on page 29. Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Electric Ireland has announced the shortlisted finalists for its inaugural Harmony Awards 2026. The awards recognise excellence in sustainability, innovation, technical achievement and project delivery across the HVACR, heat pump, building services, automation and robotics sectors. ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 7 LEDVANCEGARO The Next Generation of EV Charging Starts in 2027 The European EV charging industry is approaching one of its most significant regulatory changes to date. From 1 January 2027, newly installed public and private Mode 3 charging points across the European Union will be required to support EN ISO 15118-20, the latest evolution of vehicle-to-charger communication. Introduced through the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR), this represents a major step towards a more intelligent and interoperable charging ecosystem. Mode 3 chargepoints are the most common type of EV charger installed in homes, workplaces and public destinations. ISO 15118 introduced high-level communication between the vehicle and charger using Power Line Communication (PLC). It enables capabilities such as Plug & Charge, intelligent energy management and, ultimately, bidirectional charging (Vehicleto-Grid). ISO 15118-20 develops these capabilities further to support the future needs of electric vehicles and the wider electricity network. While much of the discussion around AFIR has focused on public charging infrastructure, the January 2027 requirement is particularly significant because it also applies to newly installed private charging points. Manufacturers, wholesalers, installers and homeowners therefore need to consider not only a charger's functionality today, but also how the products and brands they choose are preparing for the changing regulatory landscape. Many chargers currently being installed meet only today's requirements, but with January 2027 approaching, The Future of European EV Charging. Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulations and ISO 15118-20. the manufacturer's technology roadmap and commitment to long-term product support are becoming increasingly relevant. At GARO, this transition is not something new. They have been investing in ISO 15118 technologies for many years and have already introduced ISO 15118 functionality across their commercially focused charging solutions. They believe the direction set by AFIR and ISO 15118-20 is the right one for the future of electromobility. The growth of electric vehicles has been one of Europe's most successful initiatives in reducing emissions and supporting climate goals. However, simply replacing petrol and diesel vehicles with electric vehicles is only the first stage of the journey. The next challenge is ensuring that EVs contribute positively to the wider energy system. As vehicle numbers grow, they must become more than consumers of electricity. Technologies such as Vehicle-to-Grid rely on the advanced communication enabled by standards like ISO 1511820. Without these standards, innovations needed to maximise renewable energy use, reduce peak demand and support grid stability cannot be fully realised. GARO is committed to bringing these next-generation capabilities to our residential charging portfolio. In January, they will launch the next generation of their highly successful GEV range, reflecting GARO's longterm commitment to the Irish EV charging market and their confidence in the next phase of electrification. The new range will significantly expand the GEV platform. Alongside solutions for homeowners, new models will extend the range into apartment developments, destination and workplace charging. The new GEV platform has been designed with hardware to support the transition to ISO 15118-20 and the intelligent charging functions it will enable, including future Vehicle-to-Grid applications. For GARO, ISO 15118-20 is about much more than meeting a regulatory requirement. It is about preparing EV charging for its next stage, where vehicles, homes, businesses and the electricity grid can work together more intelligently. www.garoelectric.com T:+353 (0)1 866 5360 Home Charging | Workplace Charging | Fleet Charging |Public Charging | Rapid DC Charging Discover GARO’s Future-Smart EV Charging Range ev@garo.ie ISO 15118 Ready Solutions for: C M Y CM MY CY CMY K

This approval enables the appointment of John Sisk & Son as main contractor and Designer Group as reserved specialist contractor for mechanical and electrical works. This will enable the HSE to proceed through Approval Gate 3 of the Infrastructure Guidelines and to award contracts in the coming weeks. This marks a significant milestone in the delivery of one of the most important healthcare I n d uIsnt rdyu sNt reywNs e w s infrastructure projects in the history of the State to enhance the lived experience, safety and clinical outcomes for women, babies and their families. Announcing the decision, the Minister for Health said: “This project is a vital part of the Government's commitment to expanding healthcare capacity, improving patient experience and ensuring that women and babies receive care in facilities that reflect the excellence of our healthcare professionals." The new National Maternity Hospital will provide advanced maternity, neonatal and women's healthcare services for Dublin and the South-East, while also serving as a national tertiary referral centre for the most complex maternity cases from across the country. It will also be a major centre for gynaecological services, fertility services, and endometriosis care. This will mean faster access to emergency and critical care; safer management of complex pregnancies and births; reduced transfers between hospitals; improved infection prevention, privacy and inpatient conditions; and better integration of maternity, neonatal and adult specialist care.

ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 23 LEDVANGCErant Integrated heating systems - Why coordination matters from specification to installation In a heating system that brings together an air source heat pump, hot water cylinder and smart controls, decisions made at the specification stage can have a direct impact on electrical installation and commissioning. Ensuring the right components are identified and coordinated from the outset helps electrical and heating contractors plan their respective work and avoid unnecessary changes on site. If the heat pump, hot-water cylinder and controls supplied to site differ from the agreed design, contractors may face changes to electrical connections, controls integration and installation requirements. Integrated heating technologies and smart controls Modern heat pump installations involve more than the heat pump itself. For electrical contractors, understanding the electrical supply, connections and controls requirements, alongside how the heating system will operate across different zones and meet domestic hot water demands, is an important part of installation planning. An integrated Grant heating solution may bring together the awardwinning Grant Aerona R290 air source heat pump, available in outputs ranging from 4kW to 16kW, Quick Recovery hot water cylinder, Uflex underfloor heating and Aerona Smart Controller, with the technologies selected and specified to meet the requirements of the individual property. The Aerona Smart Controller supports the management of heating and domestic hot water, including multiple heating zones and weather-compensated operation. How Grant's integrated heating technologies, smart controls and technical support help streamline project delivery. For electrical contractors, early visibility of the specified equipment can help with planning electrical connections, coordinating controls installation with other trades and completing the necessary electrical testing ahead of heat pump commissioning by Grant. A clear schedule for the whole system Grant’s free Heating Design & Specification Service sizes and specifies the heating system for each heat pump project. Its technical team provides a detailed specification and bill of materials, giving merchants a clear schedule of the products required for supply. The service includes in-depth heat loss calculations, system sizing, heating layouts and product specification, helping to establish heating system requirements before installation begins. For electrical contractors, this provides greater clarity on the heating technologies and controls specified for the project, supporting coordination of electrical connections and controls installation with other trades. Supporting installation through specification and supply Ensuring that the products supplied to site match the agreed heating system specification is an important part of coordinated project delivery. Grant's nationwide network of plumbing and heating merchants provides local access to its heating technologies, accessories and spare parts, while helping project teams order the components identified for each installation. “At Grant, the distribution of our heating technologies has always been through our dedicated network of plumbing and heating merchants across Ireland,” said Barry Gorman, National Renewable Sales Manager at Grant. “We are proud of the relationships we have developed with our merchants and grateful for their continued support.” “Our integrated heating packages bring together technologies designed and specified to work as part of a complete heating system, giving our merchant network a clear package to order and supply,” said Gorman. Grant supports merchants with product training and technical information, while its wider project support includes installation advice, free heat-pump commissioning carried out by Grant’s technical team and ongoing aftercare. By bringing together integrated heating technologies, professional design and specification support, and an established merchant network, Grant helps project teams coordinate the right products and technical requirements from the outset, supporting efficient installation and a coordinated project delivery. Ireland's Electrical Magazine July 2026 - Elucian Three Phase.indd 1 12/10/2026 11:40 I n d uIsnt rdyu sNt reywNs e w s Rising energy use puts climate targets under pressure despite record low energy emissions ർSEAI Energy in Ireland report shows while emissions reduced, Ireland remains almost 80% reliant on fossil fuels and imported energy with rising demand challenging climate targets ർSEAI projections suggest energy demand could rise by 10% by 2030, against a required 15% reduction On the 22nd of October the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) published its annual Energy in Ireland report, providing definitive energy data for 2025, along with provisional data for the first half of 2026. The report highlights a contrasting picture of Ireland’s energy performance, with energy related emissions at their lowest level in 30 years, while energy consumption is at its highest level since 2008. While renewable energy supply continues to grow, the pace of growth needs to accelerate to meet Ireland's climate and energy targets. Ireland's energy-related emissions fell by 3.6% in 2025. Provisional estimates suggest emissions in the first half of 2026 were around 5% lower than in the first half of 2025. Energyrelated emissions are now 35% below their 2005 peak, with electricity generation responsible for over half of this reduction. Ireland's increase in renewable energy supply was driven by growth in heat pumps, wind, solar PV, and biodiesel blending. Despite this growth, Ireland's overall renewable energy share stood at 17.3%, behind its 2025 milestone target of 27.6%, and was the third-lowest among EU member states. Alongside rising energy demand, this highlights the scale of the challenge ahead, with Ireland continuing to rely heavily on fossil fuels and imported energy.
