Printed by W&G Baird Friday 17th, November 2023 Intercontinental Hotel, Dublin Well, we’re closing in on what is turning out to be an exceptionally good year for the industry. I can’t recall a time when there has been so much happening! Over the past couple of months alone, there have been quite a few localised trade shows, all very well attended. CEF held their annual Tech Talks event, the Dash of the Derg took place with strong support, and of course, we saw the welcome return of the EIFI Electrical Industry Awards. Electric.ie has been at them all — and we’ve got the full reports for you. We cover the Monaghan Electrical trade event, which took place at the Kilmore Hotel in Cavan (page 58). The organising team behind the Dash of the Derg have also announced that next year’s event will go ahead on September 4th, 2026 — and you can read our report on this year’s run on page 60. The EIFI Awards were especially meaningful for us this year, as our own Kevin O’Reilly was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Kevin led EMDA for many years and was the founder of Electric.ie magazine. You’ll find our full awards coverage on page 10. We also congratulate Wayne Moody on his appointment as Managing Director of Demesne Electrical (see page 21). This edition features plenty of exciting new products — we particularly like the new matt bronze finish added to the Click Litehouse Deco Collection (page 8). Also inside: Mitsubishi Electric launch their nextgeneration inverters (page 34), and we take a look at the GRANT Aerona Smart Controller. Finally, our friends at Phoenix Contact have once again included a free 2026 Wall Planner with this issue — don’t forget to hang yours up! 8 ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • Industry News Click Litehouse Introduces Elegant Matt Bronze Finish to Deco and Deco Plus Collections From Utility to Design Feature For decades, wiring accessories such as switches, sockets, and outlets were seen purely as functional products - devices that simply needed to work reliably and safely. Today, however, the landscape is shifting. Increasingly, end users, designers, and electrical contractors are recognising that these everyday essentials are not just about performance, but also about appearance, feel, and how they integrate into the overall design of a space. The traditional white plastic switch may still dominate the market in volume – the Click Mode range of white moulded wiring accessories remains the company’s best-selling range - but demand for stylish alternatives has grown rapidly. Interior designers, architects and homeowners now view wiring accessories as an integral part of the overall interior design scheme. Matte finishes, metallic tones, and screwless faceplates are trending as homeowners look for premium finishes that complement modern interiors. Balancing Aesthetics with Performance The shift is being driven not only by designers but also by a new generation of consumers who are highly attuned to detail. In an era when social media showcases every corner of a home, people are more aware of the small touches that elevate interior spaces. Wiring accessories, once ignored, now play a role in creating a premium, polished environment. While appearance is becoming increasingly important, performance remains paramount. Installers must continue to ensure compliance with safety standards, ease Following the overwhelming success of the Matt Bronze finish in the Definity range, and in response to growing demand for stylish decorative wiring accessories, Click Litehouse has now expanded this sophisticated finish to its Deco Plus and Deco ranges. of installation, and reliability. The most successful products are those that deliver both - combining modern aesthetics with robust engineering. A Touch of Bronze Deco Plus is Click’s premium curved profile decorative wiring accessory range, while Deco offers a high-quality square profile alternative. The new Matt Bronze finish, available with black inserts, enhances the Deco Plus and Deco’s timeless appeal, ideal for both residential and commercial settings. This elegant addition provides electrical contractors with high-end solutions that elevate modern interiors. All switch plates are modular as standard, allowing installers to create any switch plate required. The Click MiniGrid modules are all easily and quickly exchanged or mounted onto unfurnished

With this latest addition, the Deco Plus and Deco collections now offer nine distinctive finishes: Matt Bronze, Matt Black, Black Nickel, Satin Chrome, Polished Chrome, Stainless Steel Antique Brass, Polished Brass, Satin Brass, and for the Deco range only – Pearl Nickel. Meeting the Demands of Modern Living The introduction of the Matt Bronze finish across both Deco and Deco Plus could not have come at a better time. As modern living spaces evolve, the demand for products that blend practicality with visual sophistication continues to grow. Homes and commercial environments alike are embracing open-plan layouts, minimalist design cues, and warmer, more organic colour palettes. The Matt Bronze finish fits perfectly within this trend, offering a subtle, understated luxury that complements everything from contemporary industrial designs to classic, heritage-inspired interiors. In addition to its aesthetic appeal, the Matt Bronze finish offers the practical advantages of a textured, low-reflective surface. Unlike highly polished finishes, the matte coating helps minimise the appearance of fingerprints and smudges - an important consideration for high-traffic environments such as hotels, offices, and modern apartment developments. The finish also pairs beautifully with the trend towards darker interior tones, providing a refined accent that enhances other materials such as wood, stone, and matte black fixtures. Continuous Innovation For Click Litehouse anticipating trends and setting new standards in wiring accessory design has always been an important focus. The expansion of the Matt Bronze finish is another example of how the company continues to respond to market demand while maintaining its focus on quality, functionality, and style. By bridging the gap between technical excellence and aesthetic innovation, Click Litehouse ensures that its products remain the go-to choice for professionals and design-conscious consumers alike.

IIndusttry News Kellihers Electrical Ballymount Leading the Way The award was presented at the EIFI Awards luncheon in the Cusack & Ash Suite at Croke Park on 19th September, hosted by RTÉ’s Marty Morrissey. Branch Manager Barry Dunne accepted the award on behalf of the Ballymount team. “Needless to say, we are absolutely delighted to win it,” he added. “This win is down to our team — many long‑serving colleagues who bring vital product knowledge and a real commitment to customers. From the back office to the trade counter, everyone plays a part.” Since opening in 1997, Kellihers Electrical Ballymount has grown into one of Kellihers' flagship branches. The branch has continuously evolved to meet customer needs, investing in a refurbished trade counter and sales office, a dedicated pre‑order collection counter and a 24/7 secure collection point for time‑sensitive orders. These improvements are designed to make the customers’ jobs easier and reduce downtime on site. Barry continues: “As a branch and as a company, we are constantly growing year on year. We’ve always been ahead of the curve when it comes to market trends and specialist areas. For example, about ten years ago, we had the foresight to set up a renewables division and that has been going from strength to strength.” Kellihers Electrical operates 23 branches across the Republic of Ireland and is backed by the global Rexel Group, which acquired Kellihers Electrical in 2006. The Rexel Group’s network of almost 2,000 branches in 21 countries strengthens buying power and supply‑chain resilience — Congratulations to Kellihers Electrical Ballymount, winner of the prestigious AEW Wholesaler of the Year at the 2025 EIFI (Electrical Industries Federation of Ireland) Awards — recognition of the branch’s outstanding performance, excellent customer service, incredible staff and continued innovation. advantages that benefit customers at Ballymount every day. The branch’s operations receive further support from their 100,000 sq. ft national distribution centre in Baldonnell, which has significantly improved stock availability and delivery speeds across the network and underpins faster fulfilment for trade customers. Customer service remains central to Ballymount’s success. Barry Dunne highlights the branch’s culture of internal promotion and long staff tenure as vital to maintaining deep product knowledge within the branch. “We put the customer first — always,” he says. “Our team understands the pressures our customers face and deliver practical solutions quickly.” This blend of experienced staff, reliable stock and responsive service is why many contractors return to Ballymount time and time again. Looking ahead, Ballymount isn’t resting on its laurels. The branch continues to invest to stay responsive to market trends and customer needs. Barry Dunne describes the award as a milestone rather than a finish line: “The market is moving fast. We’re constantly looking at ways to improve our service and strengthen our place as market leaders.” As EIFI’s 2025 Wholesaler of the Year, Kellihers Ballymount sets the standard for professionalism and service in Ireland’s electrical wholesale sector, combining practical trade support with a forward-looking, customercentric approach. ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 17 Rointe Belize WiFi: Smart, safe and stylish electric heating For more than a decade, Rointe’s Belize WIFI electric radiators have been a trusted choice for installers across Ireland. Known for their slim design, high efficiency, direct WIFI and ease of installation, Belize has become a go-to option in homes, offices and rental The latest version introduces innovations that respond directly to the real needs of professionals: smarter control, improved energy performance, enhanced safety, simplified sizing, and a refreshed modern aesthetic. At its core is Inverter Smart Adaptive Tech, delivering intelligent heating that adapts to real-time demand. Combined with integrated Wi-Fi for remote control and automation, and a sleek matt black finish, the new Belize WIFI is designed for today’s connected, energy-efficient buildings. INTELLIGENT ENERGY WITH INVERTER SMART ADAPTIVE TECH What sets this new Belize Wifi apart is its patented Inverter Smart Adaptive Tech. For the first time ever and unlike traditional systems that run at full power until the room reaches temperature, this innovation allows the radiator to modulate and reduce its Power dynamically, maintaining steady warmth without wasting energy. When heating begins, Belize Wifi operates at full capacity for a rapid warm-up. As the room approaches the desired temperature, it gradually lowers its power — in some cases by up to 80% — avoiding power surges and reducing unnecessary consumption. The result is a radiator that heats faster, maintains temperature more consistently, and uses less energy on average. For installers, this means greater customer satisfaction, lower energy bills, and stronger alignment with current efficiency standards. It’s a reliable solution for both domestic projects and commercial developments where performance and sustainability matter. NOW AN LST-COMPLIANT RADIATOR Safety is a key consideration in many installations — from schools and nurseries to care homes and rental properties. That’s why the new Belize Wifi includes a built-in Low Surface Temperature (LST) function. ർNow even slimmer and available in black. Industry News Rointe When activated, this feature limits the radiator’s surface temperature, reducing the risk of burns while maintaining full heating performance. It provides added peace of mind and helps installers meet safety specifications without requiring a separate product line. A SIMPLER RANGE FOR FASTER INSTALLATION One of the biggest improvements in the new Belize is what you won’t see on the shelf: dozens of power variations. Thanks to the precision of Inverter Smart Adaptive Tech, Belize can now cover a wide range of room sizes using just three radiator sizes. For installers, this simplifies every stage of the project. There’s no need to spend time calculating or sourcing a specific wattage for each room. Instead, you can work confidently with a smaller selection of models, reducing the power through the app to suit the space. This streamlined approach translates into: • Fewer sizing errors in fast-paced or multi-unit installations • Faster installs with less time spent planning or sourcing niche variants • More flexibility on-site when plans change • Less stock to manage, both in your van and warehouse • Increased confidence, knowing one model adapts to many spaces Fewer part numbers. Less complexity. More flexibility. A smarter way to work — and an easier way to specify. CONNECTIVITY AND CONTROL, BUILT IN With Wi-Fi Inside and Bluetooth pairing, Belize connects seamlessly to the new Rointe Nexa app, giving users full control over their heating from anywhere. The app allows for custom programming, remote temperature adjustments, and intelligent automation features such as open-window detection, GPS-based routines, limited mode, travel mode, and more. Users can select from four pre-installed schedules or create their own with ease. A top-mounted full colour TFT display with a discreet touch panel also ensures intuitive on-device control — ideal for shared spaces or those who prefer manual adjustment. Whether the user is a homeowner, landlord or facilities manager, Belize offers smart control in every scenario. DESIGN THAT FITS MODERN INTERIORS Design plays an increasingly important role in heating selection — and the new Belize reflects this evolution. At just 90 mm in depth, it offers a slim, modern profile suitable for contemporary interiors and compact rooms alike. Available in White RAL 9016 or Matt Black RAL 9005, Belize blends seamlessly with a wide range of design styles. Its 100 % aluminium body and top display layout ensure a clean, architectural appearance while maintaining easy access for installers. TRUSTED BY INSTALLERS. CHOSEN BY CUSTOMERS. The new Rointe Belize is more than a heating solution — it’s a smarter, safer and more versatile system for professionals who need performance without compromise. Whether retrofitting a small apartment or specifying for a large development, Belize offers the right balance of efficiency, intelligence and design to make every installation straightforward — and every customer satisfied. ELECTRIC.IE • The Magazine & Website for the Irish Electrical Industry • 25 USB A+A – Early convenience, limited power In the early 2010s, USB-A charging began to appear in public spaces and furniture, providing a simple and universal method to power cell phones and small devices. These early solutions typically delivered 5W–10W of power, sufficient for phones at the time, but inadequate for laptops, tablets, and power-hungry accessories. Why change happened – two reasons: • Consumers needed on-the-go power • Limitation – power output was too low for anything larger USB A+C – The transition phase With the rise of newer smartphones, tablets, and portable devices using USB-C cables, a transitional port setup emerged: USB-A + USB-C. This setup maintained backward compatibility while introducing faster charging (up to 18–25W) via USB-C. What happened? Device manufacturers began shipping phones with USB-C ports. Power module manufacturers adapted to support both legacy and modern users. Benefit: Mid-level fast charging for newer phones, with legacy USB-A support for existing users. USB C+C – The modern charging standard As USB-C adoption became nearuniversal across Android devices and newer Apple products, the next logical step was a dual USB-C port configuration, offering 30W fast charging suitable for nearly all phones, tablets, and accessory devices. The Journey of USB Charging From convenience to global standard - Today, more than 6 billion devices use the USB system - USB Implementers Forum. Below, Paul Noonan of Switch Electrical Solutions outlines the evolution of the USB Charger so far. Industry News Switch Electrical Distribution Why it happened: The market demanded faster, universal, and more sustainable charging solutions. Benefit: Three-pin plug usage is rapidly declining in most devices, replaced by modular, USB-C-based solutions. The game changer – EU legislation on universal charging In 2022, the European Union passed legislation mandating USB-C as the universal standard for cell phones, tablets, and other small electronics sold in the EU by 2024. This has driven global adoption even outside Europe as manufacturers standardize production globally. Where is this leading? In short, we are heading toward a world where three-pin plug sockets are no longer necessary for charging personal electronics. The shift is already visible in: • Airports, where high-wattage USB-C is being rolled out in lounges and terminals • Universities and libraries, providing fast charging at every table or seat without trailing cords • Modern offices, where desks, meeting tables, soft seating, breakout areas, and training rooms are being fitted with modular, scalable USB-C charging for both phones and laptops • Hotels, trains, and public venues, ensuring seamless charging without adapters or power bricks What about USB-D? Will the evolution continue? As of 2025, there is no formal public specification or roadmap for a USB-D standard. Industry bodies, including the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF), are focused on enhancing USB-C performance rather than introducing a new connector form. Given current trajectories, USB-C is likely to dominate the market for at least another 5–10 years with incremental improvements rather than complete overhauls. Market saturation and regulatory alignment most likely discourage introducing a new physical connector any time soon. Conclusion – From adaptation to leadership The evolution of USB charging from USB-A to high-wattage USB-C has not only made device charging faster and more efficient, but it’s also reshaping how commercial environments are designed. USB-C is no longer a feature — it’s an expectation. Those who adopt early will lead in design, functionality, and customer satisfaction. Paul from Switch Electrical Solutions (suppliers of OE Products in Ireland) has announced that OE Electrics products now include USB-C charging offering up to 100 watt capabilities across their range of ondesk, below-desk, and in-desk power solutions — providing customers with even greater flexibility and functionality in the workspace. Switch Electrical Solutions takes pride in offering a comprehensive 360° service — from initial project consultation, product evaluation, and selection, through to final order placement. Whether clients are designing a new office or upgrading existing setups, the company’s expert team is available to help identify and deliver the ideal power solution.
